All of the Huron County Community Library locations are set to give you an October full of fun Halloween activities and programs filled with information.
Join us at our Willard Memorial Library location community room on Thursday, October 9 at 6 p.m. to learn about the history of the Ohio State Reformatory. Staff from the reformatory will be here to tell us the real history of the famous Ohio landmark – including the scary parts.
The Laurels of New London will present their Senior Hour at the Willard Memorial Library on
October 31 at 11 a.m. This will be a special Medicare Q&A Session. Experts will be here to answer all of your Medicare questions.
The Firelands Genealogical Society is back at the Willard library for a two night workshop on Genealogy Basics. Session one will be on Tuesday, October 28 at 6 p.m. At this session you will be using the free workbook you get to keep. The second session will be on Thursday, October 30 at 6 p.m. in the library computer lab. During session two you will be assisted in your online research. You must attend both sessions to take part. Sign up is required because of limited space.
Bring your computer related questions to the Willard Library computer lab on Thursdays at 5 p.m. Jarrad the library’s Information Technologies Coordinator will be in the lab to answer questions and offer guidance. You may also access the “Northstar Digital Literacy Program” while in our computer lab.
For a creative outlet, join the Huron County Community Library Writers’ Group. The group will meet in the community room at the Willard Library on Thursday, October 16 at 6 p.m. If you can’t join us in person, we offer a virtual option. For more information contact Josh at jfigley@huroncolib.org.
“Monday Reads” will meet on Monday, October 20 at 10 a.m. in the Willard community room. The group will be discussing the book “Hester” by Laurie Albanese.
“Turn the Page Book Discussion”, Willard’s evening book discussion will get together on Thursday, October 30 at 6 p.m. They will share their thoughts on “Remarkably Bright Creatures” by
Shelby Van Pelt.
Come join our lively discussions and enjoy a bite to eat with Willard’s “Cook Up a Storm Cookbook Club”. This group will meet in the Willard Library Annex on Thursday, October 2 at 6 p.m. to share recipes from two different Fall themed Gooseberry Patch Cookbooks.
Get creative with us at the Willard Library location on Monday, October 20 at 6 p.m. in the annex. Celebrate cool weather with a fun “Pour Paint” project. We’ll be creating two pieces in one using canvas and a Dollar Tree candy dispenser. Sign up is required.
Join us on the second Thursday of each month at 10 a.m. at the Willard Enrichment Center for a free craft or activity. This program is restricted to ages 18 and up. On Thursday, October 9 come and create your own Pumpkin Felt Bowl. Perfect for candy, holding small items, or as a Fall gift.
Teens (kids grades 6 and up) come to the Willard Memorial Library for lots of Halloween crafting. On Thursday, October 2, in the community room, we will be creating Spooky Ceramics; on Tuesday,
October 7 come to the community room and make your own Haunted House with cardboard, paint, and more; on Thursday, October 16, we will be making Fall/Halloween string art in the community room; on Tuesday, October 21, join us to learn about Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) while decorating sugar skulls in the library annex; and on Thursday, October 30 come to the Willard Library annex and try your hand with a new slime recipe that has some creepy ingredients to top it off. All of these Teen activities are at 5 p.m.
Storytime with Miss Mitzi is held on Wednesday mornings at 10:30 a.m. and Thursday, evenings at 6:30 p.m. Join us for stories, crafts, songs, and more! The theme for October 1 & 2 is “S Is for Scarecrow”; for October 8 & 9 it is “Whooo’s at Storytime”; on October 15 & 16 it is “Jack O’ Lantern Surprise”; on October 22 & 23 “AW Nuts – SQUIRRELS!”; and on October 29 & 30 the theme is “Spiderific Storytime”.
Kids come to the Willard Library annex on Tuesday, October 7 at 4:30 p.m. for “Book to start and then. . .Art.” We will read and then create a MONSTERPIECE!
Create your own unique pumpkin in the library annex on Thursday, October 16 at 4:30 p.m. Use diamond art and sparkling gems. But Wait! There’s more. . . come see for yourself. (While supplies last).
Kids ages 5-11 are invited to a “Glow in the Dark Party”. Sign up is required for this event. The party will be held in the Willard Library Community Room on Tuesday, October 21 at 5:30 p.m. Kids will enjoy glow in the dark fun with stories, games, dancing, and more.
All ages are invited to join us at the Willard Library for some “Playdough” fun. Come to the library annex on Thursday, October 23 at 4:30 p.m. for “Playdough Day”
Drop in all week Monday, October 27 to Friday, October 31 all day for a “Dancing Skeleton Scavenger Hunt” in the Youth Services Department. Finding the skeletons will help you answer a funny question. The correct answer will earn you a sweet treat or surprise.
Join us in the Willard Library Community Room on Tuesday, October 14 at 4:30 p.m. for “Brick Bunch”. Every month we have LEGO fun with a featured building challenge.
Be sure to come see our Willard Memorial Library at the Willard City Park during “Goods in the Woods”. On Saturday, October 18 & Sunday, October 19 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. join us for fun button making and a flower pot craft. On Sunday, October 19 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jungle Island Zoo will be with us at the park for a free petting zoo and also to meet some special animals including a kangaroo!
The Huron County Community Library at our Greenwich Library location offers “Take and Makes”. Stop by the library and pick up a weekly craft for kids. Take it home to do it.
Chris has Storytime at the Greenwich Library on Friday mornings. She will have stories, songs, crafts, games, and more. Kids of all ages are welcome on October 10, 17, 24, and 31 at 11 a.m.
Join us every afternoon at the Greenwich Library between 3-5 p.m. It will be an afternoon of fun. On October 1 come and play with Hydrophobic Magic Sand. It is sand that never gets wet, even under water. Create a Fall animal shadow on October 8. You will be using cotton balls and paint to create the shadows. Have fun making monster faces out of Popsicle sticks and paint on October 15 and create slime from a pumpkin on October 22. Then learn how to make a pumpkin throw up.
“Little Monster Fun Night” will be held at our Greenwich Library location on Wednesday, October 29 from 3-5 p.m. Learn how to make ghosts fly, do fun crafts, and enjoy spooky games and treats! Wear your Halloween costume and join us for lots of fun.
The Greenwich Library’s Home School Group will get together on Thursday, October 2 at 11 a.m. Learn about solar energy by creating a fun bug that never needs batteries.
Pinterest Monday at the Greenwich Library will take place on October 6 at 5:30 p.m. Sign up is required. We will be having fun with a “Pour Paint” project. Create two pieces in one using canvas and a Dollar Tree Candy Dispenser.
Come to our North Fairfield Library on Tuesday, October 7 at 1 p.m. for Medicare 101. Join Medicare specialist, Diane Cawood, for a presentation on resources available in Medicare. A question and answer will follow.
Chair Yoga with “PT Patty” from Integrated Therapeutic Healing is scheduled at our North Fairfield Library on Tuesday, October 14 at 11 a.m. Come experience the benefit of Yoga safely and pain free.
North Fairfield is rich in history dating back to the 1830’s. Join us at the library on Monday, October 20 at 5:30 p.m. for a “Walking Tour”. Ruth Earl curator of the North Fairfield Museum will guide the tour and share her knowledge of several homes and buildings in the village.
“Sit and Stitch” meets every Monday morning at 10 a.m. This is a time for anyone who wants to bring whatever they are working on to share with others. If you knit, crochet, cross stitch, rug hook, etc all are welcome to join in.
Thursday Crafternoon takes place at our Wakeman Library. Kids can drop in anytime from 3:30 to 6 p.m. on Thursdays for fun activities, crafts, and more. Each week features something new. Join us on October 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30.
Pop-in and play is available at the Wakeman Library on Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. Bring your little one to the library for some fun play. It’s a great way to meet other parents and for your little one to have a fun playdate. Come on October 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29.

Homeschool Families and Kids are invited to join Wakeman’s special “Look What I Cooked: Kids’ Cookbook Club”. Check out the monthly selection and make your favorite recipe at home and bring it to the discussion for everyone to enjoy. Join us on Tuesday, October 7 at 12:30 p.m. This month’s choice is “Farmers’ Market Favorites” by Gooseberry Patch.
“Food for Thought Cookbook Club” Wakeman Library’s Cookbook Club is scheduled to meet on Monday, October 6 at 6 p.m. They will be using “Debbie Macomber’s Table” by Debbie Macomber for this month’s cookbook.
“Who Picked This Book? Wakeman Book Club” will be meeting on Monday, October 20 at 5:30 p.m. The book they are reading is “The Glassmaker” by Tracy Chevalier.
“The Senior Hour” presented by Laurels of New London, is scheduled for Tuesday, October 28 at 10:30 a.m. at the Wakeman Library. Join them for a morning of fun and information just for seniors. There is a different topic each month and there is always an activity or craft.
