A careless mistake is threatening to sink Thea's editorial career. She's called in to her boss's office, sure that she's about to be let go. Much to her dismay, she's informed that famous cookbook author, Maria Capello, has finally agreed to write her memoir and she wants Thea to edit it. Thirty years ago, Maria's chef husband disappeared under suspicious circumstances. Maria went on to build a food empire, despite nasty rumors and speculation that circulated for years. This is an opportunity that Thea can't pass up even though she's going to have to leave her family behind to go work at Maria's farm to maintain secrecy about the details of the memoir. Once there, Thea hopes to get the work done quickly, but she's only given one chapter at a time, her cell phone has been confiscated and there are some strange things going on with Maria's family. I wanted to like this book more than I did. I couldn't warm up to Thea and parts of it were quite macabre. There are a few interesting twists at the end that I probably would have seen coming if I'd been more invested in the book.
