Annie's rough childhood steered her into the military after high school, where she found something she was good at. Her experience as a special investigator in the Air Force led to her becoming a private investigator to pay the bills. Or mostly pay the bills. Her current case takes her back home to Appalachia. Ten years ago, three little girls went missing from their tiny town. Now the brother of one of the girls wants Annie to look into this very cold case to see if she can find out what happened to his sister. As Annie's investigation stirs up unwanted memories with the town folk, it also sparks her own memories of growing up in the hills. And her probing for answers seems to have hit a nerve, because things are starting to happen with a case that has been stagnant for a decade. This is a pretty good book. All the folklore makes it very atmospheric. Annie is original and likeable. You're probably not going to predict the ending. A fast moving story makes this one hard to put down.
